The initial shock at the announcement that Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), will lead COP28 has still not worn off, and for good reason. While 2023 is set to go down as the hottest year in recorded history, ADNOC is opening up new oil and gas fields in the United Arab Emirates and expanding its drilling sites off the coast of the Arabian Peninsula. According to its own announcements, ADNOC plans to increase its oil production by 25% until 2030.
