Press Release
Berlin / Sassenberg 22.05.2024

Urgewald is thrilled to be among the 2024 finalists for the prestigious Keeling Curve Prize announced by The Global Warming Mitigation Project. The award committee recognizes the top climate innovators in their respective categories. These organizations represent the forefront of global efforts to combat climate change.

“It is a privilege and a pleasure to see The Global Warming Mitigation Project single out Urgewald’s decades-long efforts to end fossil fuel finance,” says Heffa Schuecking, Director of Urgewald. “Behind each new coal plant and coal mine, each new LNG terminal and oil pipeline, there are banks, investors and insurers without whom these projects could not be realized. Breaking the bond between finance and fossil fuels is a key part of the climate fight and central to Urgewald’s mission. Being designated as a Keeling Curve Prize finalist is enormously encouraging and we are proud to join this inspiring community of climate innovators.”

The Keeling Curve Prize, renowned for recognizing projects and programs worldwide across five categories that effectively reduce, remove, or replace greenhouse gas emissions, received an unprecedented 680 applications this year. Amidst fierce competition, the Global Warming Mitigation Project’s expert team of climate analysts diligently reviewed each submission to identify the most promising initiatives.
