Nora Sausmikat has reinforced the bank team since September 2019 and focuses on the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). She works together with a wide network of NGOs from Asia and Europe and in addition to concentrating on the AIIB, analyses China’s new role, above all in the global governmental institutions sector and human rights politics.
Nora has a doctorate in Sinology and contributes 30 years’ experience in the analysis of political reform processes in China, with a special focus on environmental and human rights movements. She’s a networker, author, visionary and has advised various political institutions for many years. In 2008, she founded the Asia House Foundation’s China Programme, together with Klaus Fritsche and developed and led it till 2019. In addition, she and partners from China started the EU-China NGO Twinning Programme, which included over 140 graduates from over 20 European countries and China by 2019.
The switch to Urgewald is the result of many years of excellent cooperation. Although Nora loves her work, she makes sure her two sons are not overlooked. The best way for her to unwind is tending her garden, dancing and of course Tai Qi/Yoga, hiking and skiing.
